Layouts 2024 - Part 1
This year we have an interesting range of layouts to suit everyone's interests from O-gauge to Z-gauge (and lots in-between) If you're not sure about the different scales and gauges, you'll find THIS GUIDE helpful.
Rosebud City, Montana
Brian Willcocks
A superb layout modelled in N-gauge (North American Scale 1/160). The layout centres around Rosebud Union Station located in downtown Rosebud and represents Era 5 (1957-1966) on the Great Northern Railroad. There are many cameo scenes with some animation and sound. Watch for the diverted trains on their way to the Chicago World Fair. The layout is modular using 6' boards. It took 3 years to build and uses a DC control system.
Hannover Falls
Ian Arkley
An excellent layout showing what can be created in Z-gauge (Scale 1:220). It centres around trains running through a central European gorge and represents Eras 5 and 6 (1957-1971). Ian created it during a period when he had Covid. This tiny layout features both American and European stock and has been featured in Continental Modeller magazine. You can preview it on YouTube.
Crossways Wagon Works
John Cavell
This innovative layout is in both O-gauge and O-9-gauge (Scale 1:43). It represents Era 11 (the current era) and is based on a wagon works run by a railway preservation society as part of a heritage railway. Here rolling stock is restored, repaired, and maintained. A narrow gauge loco is needed for stock movements. It shows what can be achieved in a small space at Scale 1:43.
Yr Hen Felin
Phil Thorogood
Back by popular demand. This is a SM32 layout (Scale 1:19) based on narrow gauge 2' gauge prototypes which were once common here in Wales. It's an audience participation shunting puzzle where you can get involved by driving the loco and shunting the wagons. There's lots of fun for people of all ages. Join in and have a go!
